Access Air Ambulance, Inc.

Frequently Asked Questions about our membership program.

There are two typical scenarios in which air transport is required:

1. Trauma as a result of an accident or a medical emergency (such as a heart attack) in which we fly to the scene or even your house, in a helicopter, provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) on scene, something that local ground ambulances are not equipped to provide, and then rapidly transport you to the nearest appropriate medical facility. On scene ALS care can often make a true Life or Death difference.

2. A serious medical condition in which a doctor orders air transport from one medical facility (such as Northern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko) to another medical facility (such as University of Utah). Examples of typical medical conditions in which a doctor may order air transport are:

Severe bone fractures
Cardiac emergencies
Burns
Head injuries
Spinal injuries
Eye injuries
Organ transplants
Seizures of unknown cause

Access Air Ambulance will respond based on Medical Necessity only.  Medical Necessity must be determined by a healthcare professional or pre-hospital healthcare provider except in cases of transport from extremely remote areas.

What does my membership do for my family?

A typical helicopter transport can cost $5,000.00 to over $15,000.00. If health insurance covers 80% of air transport, a $1,000.00 to $3,000.00 bill may remain to be paid by the patient, in addition to other medical and travel expenses.

A $50.00 Access Air Ambulance family membership covers everyone in your immediate family, and will relieve the family of any Access Air Ambulance transport costs.

There is no limit to the number of immediate family members or the number of air transports with Access Air that occur in a year – a member will never receive a bill from Access Air Ambulance.

How does the membership program work?

Your membership grants member benefits to you, your spouse, and all minor (18 years or younger) dependents. Other dependents may be allowed on a case-by-case basis. You and your family will receive membership cards shortly after your application and application fee is received and processed.

Access Air Ambulance will bill your insurance carrier directly and will accept their payment as payment in full. You will not be billed for any costs not covered by your insurance company.  All patients will be transported based on medical necessity and aircraft availability, not membership status.

What if I don’t have any health insurance?

A member will not receive a bill for air transport regardless of whether or not the member has health insurance. Health insurance is not required to obtain or maintain a membership.  Our membership does not however relieve you of the additional medical costs associated with hospital stays.

Why should you become an Access Air Ambulance member?

The demand for emergent air medical transportation has increased dramatically due to growth of our region. Membership will give you the peace of mind to know that if your family ever needs our services, we can arrive at your location, often in just minutes, with a highly experienced medical crew consisting of a flight nurse and flight paramedic who will provide Advanced Life Support care on scene instead of waiting until you arrive at the hospital emergency room. After initial treatment and stabilization, you will be rapidly transported to the nearest appropriate medical facility, typically arriving in about one third of the time that ground transport would take. All this at NO COST to you or your family!

How does my membership support my community?

Access Air Ambulance is committed to serving our community by providing the highest quality air medical services to anyone who is in need but, as with any EMS ambulance service, we need community support. A county EMS program is supported by everyone’s tax dollars. Our membership program supports Access Air Ambulance and without a strong membership program in this community, Access Air Ambulance will be unable to continue to provide life-saving services. However, unlike taxes, an Access Air Ambulance membership provides a huge financial payback in the event of an emergency. You will have the personal satisfaction of knowing that your membership fee may be directly responsible for saving a family members life as well as others in our community.

What area does Access Air Ambulance serve?

Our helicopter in Elko, NV currently serves nearly all of the northern portion of Nevada, as well as parts of southern Idaho, and western Utah.

A membership provides benefits in our entire current service area as well as all future areas as we add Access Air Ambulance bases.
